What factors can cause bowl bearing failure?

The so-called bearing failure refers to a product that becomes invalid without damage during use. This type of product is very influential among manufacturers and customers. There are many reasons for the failure of this headset bearing, such as improper application, contamination, improper use of lubricants, etc. It is not difficult to confirm the cause of the invalidation, because the cause of the headset bearing invalidation can be determined based on the marks left on the headset bearing. The way to deal with the problem of headset bearing invalidation is to prevent invalidation. This can be achieved based on the key characteristics of the application process. These characteristics include noise, starting and running torque, stiffness, non-repetitive vibration, radial and axial clearance.

The torque requirement is determined by the quality of the lubricant, cage, bowl bearing ring, and whether a seal or shielding device is used. The viscosity of the lubricant must be carefully selected, because an inappropriate lubricant will produce too much torque, especially in small bowl bearings. In addition, the noise characteristics of different lubricants are also different.

During the rotation of ultra-light cup bearing customization products, if there is a random eccentric distance between the inner and outer rings, non-repetitive vibrations will occur, which are very similar to cam motion. The dimensional error of the cage and the eccentricity of the cup bearing ring and ball will cause NRR. Unlike repetitive vibration, NRR cannot be compensated.

In industry, different types and precision grades of cup bearings are generally selected according to the specific application. Similarly, the spindle of a lathe can only allow minimum vibration to ensure cutting accuracy. Therefore, cup bearings with less non-repetitive vibration are used in machine tool applications.

Once the cup bearing in the ball cup bearing customization product is contaminated, the lubricant will deteriorate and the running noise will increase. If the cup bearing overheats, it will seize. When contaminants are between the ball and the cup bearing ring, it acts like abrasive particles between metal surfaces and damages the cup bearing. Selecting sealing and shielding equipment to block dirt is one way to control contamination.
